Convincing clients to use SmartFlaggers can be simple – they are safer, smarter and more efficient for every job. Read on for tips on how to make the sale!

Convince even the toughest contractors on the value of SmartFlaggers!

AFADs (Automated Flagger Assistance Devices) over the years have had some issues which have left contractors with a bad taste in their mouths.

Many contractors don’t think SmartFlaggers will work for a specific job. Most contractors are used to old-style AFADs – heavy, hard to install, hard to use, expensive. SmartFlaggers are totally different – very quick to set up and move, and they require minimal training to operate.

Site 2020 has revolutionized automated flaggers – we have spent 4 years and interviewed over 500 construction professionals to develop an AFAD that is easy to use and works on a majority of sites.

SmartFlaggers fix the issues seen with old-style AFADs. This email dives into how to communicate the value of the system with contractors, and make the sale!

In this three part newsletter we’ll dive into:

  • Part 1: The value we deliver to contractors:
    • Safety – Saving lives every day with a whole-site shield
    • Video recording – Avoid insurance claims!
    • Increased driver compliance
    • Better communication for fewer headaches and more efficient sites

  • Part 2: How to overcome common objections:
    • Automation vs. Humans
    • What if this doesn’t work on my job site?
    • Why shouldn’t I keep using flaggers?

  • Part 3: Sales tools to close the deal
    • YouTube videos
    • Framing the product package
    • Brochures
    • Collaborative meetings
    • Demo sites
    • DOT influence
    • Web conferences
    • Trade shows

Part 1: Value to Contractors

Whole Site Shield: A new way to keep your entire zone safe, to levels never seen before.

We’ve all heard stories of a serious injury or fatality on a work-zone. Once an hour someone is killed on a road construction site.* SmartFlaggers create a Whole Site Shield to protect everyone – not just the flaggers.

People die flagging. Standing in the road, in front of tired, distracted and intoxicated drivers – it’s only a matter of time. DOTs across the country are pushing AFADs at any cost and even spec them into bids to ensure people stop dying on our roads.

We have the solution. We have alarms to warn all workers on site when danger happens, an always-watching human operator, and fail-safes built in to prevent dangerous situations. Traffic lights are intimidating and much more visible than flaggers, and with a pilot setup we force vehicles to slow down.

“These systems are a godsend. Brother, we saw big trucks cruise up to us flagging at 70 miles an hour on that job, for three weeks. With these lights, they slowed down.” – Rick, SmartFlagger Operator

Why would you not want to save lives with a solution that’s available TODAY?

Video Surveillance – Avoid Insurance Claims

This is the biggest selling point for contractors. Clients tell us that avoidance of just one insurance claim will pay off their SmartFlaggers for years to come.

What happens when your paver gets hit by a semi truck, and the driver claims it’s your fault because your cones were set up wrong? You’ll now have video evidence to prevent the court case before it happens and protect the integrity of your company.

SmartFlaggers make drivers more compliant

Drivers understand and comply better to AFADs, and are less likely to put your people in danger.

With the correct site setup, the Missouri DOT saw up to 225% improvements in driver behaviour when using AFADs vs. flaggers!

“The results indicated that the AFAD may enhance safety over the human flagger based on a reduced vehicle approach speed, farther full stop location, and lower intervention rate. The public had a favorable impression of the AFAD and generally preferred it over the human flagger.” Source:

Fewer headaches and more efficient sites – better communication

Each SmartFlagger system has a single human operator. No more communication headaches, no more unreliable two-way radios, and a single point of contact for the contractor. We’ve had many situations where we were begged to set up SmartFlaggers more quickly – simply because the two-way radios we tried to use wouldn’t work to communicate but the SmartFlaggers would!

When your contractor needs to let a truck onto the site, now he only needs to communicate with one SmartFlagger operator, instead of coordinating with 2 or more flaggers.

Stay tuned for part two – common objections and how to overcome them!
